Do you need a little time-out? Then, come and visit Lake Cospuden. You will find a huge
selection of possibilities for recreation, fitness and memorable experiences here. The lake rose
like a phoenix from the ashes. Where clear water invites to take a swim nowadays, coal was
extracted for many years under GDR-rule until the change. The lake is situated between the cities
of Leipzig, Markkleeberg and Zwenkau. Lake Cospuden, 3.5 km long and 1.5 km wide (expanse of water:
420 ha), is one of the first lakes in the arising “ Neuseenl@nd”.
Come and enjoy a pleasant vacation here.The port in the district of Zöbigker, known as the
maritime meeting-place, developed into a popular water-sport center (sailing, surfing,
kite-surfing, diving, hiring of boats) in the region.
The change from opencast mining into a modern recreation area with many leisure amenities can be
seen from the 35 meter high observation tower “Bistumshöhe”.
Numerous options await guests who prefer more quiet activities. Recommendations are swimming
and relaxing on the north and east bank, restful hours in the “Sauna-im-See”, a round of golf on
the 9-hole golf-course, a boat trip with the motor boat “Cospuden” or a cozy discovering tour
around the lake with narrow-gauge railway “Schlendrian”.
“Belantis” a newly built amusement park awaits its guests with breathtaking fun and
entertainment for the whole family on the west bank of the lake from April 2003 onwards.
The most pleasant way to review all these wonderful memories turns out to be a romantic
dinner at the “Seebrückenrestaurant”, the ice-cream parlour or the “Damm-Café” on the east bank of
the lake. Maybe you have the chance to witness the truly marvelous sight of a sunset at the same
time. A substantial program calendar with cultural and sporting events completes the offering.
